Is first aid training mandatory in Australian workplaces?+
Yes. WHS regulations require that employers ensure a sufficient number of workers are trained in first aid, appropriate to the risks of the workplace. High-risk workplaces may need multiple trained responders.
What are the main first aid courses available?+
Common nationally recognised first aid courses include HLTAID009 (Provide CPR), HLTAID010 (Provide basic emergency life support), HLTAID011 (Provide First Aid — most popular), HLTAID012 (Provide First Aid in an education and care setting) and HLTAID014 (Provide Advanced First Aid).
How long does first aid training take?+
HLTAID011 usually takes 1 full day (can be blended online + in person). CPR (HLTAID009) takes 2–3 hours. Advanced First Aid runs 2–3 days.
How often should first aid training be renewed?+
CPR is recommended to be refreshed every 12 months. First Aid certificates should be renewed every 3 years, as per Safe Work Australia guidelines.
Is first aid training nationally recognised?+
Yes. Accredited training providers issue Statements of Attainment upon successful completion, valid across all states and territories.
How much does first aid training cost in Australia?+
Prices vary by provider and course type. CPR: from $60–$90. HLTAID011: from $100–$160. Advanced First Aid: $250–$400+.
