Training for power distribution, rail infrastructure and telecommunications
The electricity supply industry is an ever-growing industry focusing not just on the generation of power, but on delivering that power safely to the community. Training for this industry is designed for workers to work safely near and within the "safe working zone" of energised electrical apparatus — including power distribution infrastructure, rail infrastructure and the telecommunications industry.
From vegetation management to emergency first aid and rescue, we teach you how to work safely around live power. Typical work functions include vegetation control, scaffolding, rigging, painting, demolition and construction, use of EWPs or any other activity requiring safe work near live electrical apparatus or interfacing with electricity network operators.
This includes safe work on/around and access/egress to construction/demolition sites and substation enclosures. If the worksite is near overhead electrical power lines, before any work commences you must follow the relevant No Go Zone safety procedures. Electrical supply network owners require that work undertaken in proximity to their assets is performed by people who are suitably qualified.

What is Transmission, Distribution & Rail (TDR) Training?+
TDR training encompasses a range of nationally recognised safety and technical courses designed to prepare workers for roles in high-voltage transmission towers, powerline distribution networks, electrical substations, rail infrastructure maintenance and construction, and live-line and electrical service work.
Who needs TDR training?+
Lineworkers and electrical technicians, substation personnel and live-line workers, rail workers and contractors (ARTC, Sydney Trains, etc.), electrical engineers and safety observers, and contractors entering rail or high-voltage environments.
Is TDR training nationally recognised?+
Yes. Most TDR training courses are nationally accredited through Registered Training Organisations, and many are aligned to licensing or access requirements such as UETDRMP010, UETDREL006, TLIF2080 and HLTAID011.
How long do TDR safety courses take?+
Rail corridor access (RIW cards): ~1 day. ESI-specific first aid or pole-top rescue: 1–2 days. Full TDR safety programs: 3–5 days depending on employer requirements.
Do I need special access cards for rail work?+
Yes. To work in rail corridors, workers usually need a Rail Industry Worker (RIW) card, plus units of competency like TLIF2080 (Safely access the rail corridor) and National Rail Safety Induction. Requirements differ across networks like Sydney Trains, ARTC, Queensland Rail and Metro Trains Melbourne.
How much does TDR training cost in Australia?+
