Unique Student Identifier (USI)

A Unique Student Identifier is a government-issued reference number made up of ten numbers and letters. Think of it as your lifelong training record. Every nationally recognised qualification or statement of attainment you receive is linked to your USI, making it easier to:

• Keep track of your completed training
• Access your training transcript online
• Share verified training records with employers
• Avoid losing certificates over time
• Continue your education with different training providers

Your USI belongs to you — not to your employer or training provider.

You will generally need a USI if you're enrolling in:

• Nationally recognised training
• Accredited vocational education and training (VET)
• Units of competency
• Qualifications delivered by an Australian Registered Training Organisation

This includes most workplace safety courses delivered by Zokal Training. Some non-accredited courses or awareness programs may not require a USI. If you're unsure whether your course requires one, our team can advise you before your training.

The best time to provide your USI is during enrolment. Providing it early allows us to:

• Report your completed training correctly
• Issue your certificate without unnecessary delays

If you don't have your USI available during enrolment, please contact us as soon as possible. Your certificate cannot be issued until your USI has been successfully verified.

Creating a USI is free and usually only takes a few minutes. You'll need a valid form of identification, your personal details, and an email address or mobile number.

Simply provide your USI during enrolment. Before submitting it, double-check that:

• Your name matches your identification exactly
• Your date of birth is correct
• The USI has been entered without typing errors

Even a small spelling difference can prevent successful verification.

Why does my name need to match?

One of the most common reasons a USI cannot be verified is because the personal details don't match the information held by the USI Registry. For example:

• Using “Chris” instead of “Christopher”
• Missing middle names
• Incorrect surname spelling
• Recently changed surname
• Different date of birth

When your enrolment details match your official identification, verification is usually straightforward.

Occasionally, the USI Registry cannot match the information provided. If this happens, Zokal will contact you to confirm your details. You may be asked to:

• Check your USI number
• Confirm your legal name
• Verify your date of birth
• Provide updated identification
• Update your details with the USI Registry if necessary

Once the information has been corrected, we'll attempt verification again.

Your USI contains personal information. Zokal Training only collects and verifies your USI for purposes required under national vocational education and training legislation. Your information is:

• Stored securely
• Used only for authorised training administration
• Protected in accordance with our Privacy Policy
• Never shared except where legally required

Your USI isn't just for one course. As you complete additional nationally recognised training throughout your career, your USI continues building your official training history. Many employers and industries value having an accurate training record that can be verified quickly. Your USI can help simplify future:

I completed training years ago. Do I still need a USI?

If your course requires nationally recognised certification today, yes. Modern nationally recognised training generally requires a verified USI before certification can be issued.

My employer booked the course. Do I still need a USI?

Yes. Your employer can arrange your booking, but your USI belongs to you as an individual learner.

Can someone else create my USI?

Yes, in certain circumstances you may authorise another person to assist with creating your USI, provided government requirements are met.

I've forgotten my USI.

Don't create a new one. You can recover your existing USI through the official USI Registry website.

Can I have more than one USI?

No. Each student should only have one USI for life.

Will my certificate be delayed without a USI?

Yes. Zokal cannot issue nationally recognised certification until your USI has been successfully verified.
