Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Already doing the work? RPL recognises skills and experience you have gained on the job so you do not repeat training you do not need.
01
What RPL can cover
RPL applies to the units of competency in your chosen course. If your current skills already meet the assessment requirements, you can be assessed without completing the full training program.
02
Evidence you can provide
- Detailed resume and position descriptions
- Supervisor or employer third-party reports
- Photos, videos or records of tasks performed
- Previous certificates, licences and training records
- Workplace procedures, permits and JSAs you have completed
03
The RPL process
- Initial discussion to confirm RPL is suitable
- Evidence portfolio submission
- Competency conversation and practical verification with an assessor
- Gap training only where evidence is insufficient
04
Fees
RPL is quoted per application based on the units involved. In most cases it costs less and takes less time away from work than full course attendance.
